Air New Zealand are currently trialing last minute $39 standby flights for students at Otago and Waikato Universities and Polytechnics.
Students must arrive at the airport 90 minutes before their flight to purchase a ticket to anywhere in the country. They are then given a boarding pass if seat is available 30 minutes before the scheduled flight.
The trial runs from September 7 to October 4 and is an exercise to test demand in New Zealand for last minute flights.
Students, take your student ID to Dunedin or Hamilton airport and give it a go. Hopefully the trial proves popular and last minute flights become the norm!

Qantas introduces NZ to New York service

13 Jul 2009Qantas has today introduced Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch to New York services.
Depart from New Zealand and after a brief stop over in LA, you can now continue to enjoy Qantas entertainment and customer service for your onward journey to New York. You can dine, watch a movie or simply catch up on some sleep before arriving in the city that never does.
Celebrating the new through service to New York, special fares are available for sale until Sunday 26 July 2009.

From 12pm until midnight tonight, Tuesday 9th June, Jetstar have 1500 seats on sale for only $15, unless sold out prior. $15 fares will be on limited domestic flights and routes only and for travel from 22nd July until 2 September 2009. Limited availability on public holiday weekends and sale fares are generally available on early morning and late evening flights, and on weekdays. Domestic flights are subject to regulatory approval.
So for a mere $15 you could be taking off to some of New Zealand’s finest destinations! That INCLUDES surcharges, fees and taxes! Prices are based on payment by direct deposit through Jetstar.com.

Cheap flights from Hamilton to Sydney and Brisbane

3 Jun 2009Pacific Blue have confirmed the launch of its services in Hamilton, flying to Sydney and Brisbane, Australia.
Hamilton Airport has not had international flights since Air New Zealand discontinued its international service in April this year.
Pacific Blue are introducing the service with a two week special with one-way fares of $169 NZD to Sydney and $199 NZD to Brisbane.

Cheap Flights Setup Queenstown for Big Winter

29 May 2009Cheap flights to Queenstown and Christchurch, New Zealand, coupled with a low NZ dollar, mean plenty of Australians will be flocking to South Island skifields this winter.
NZ Herald’s Lois Simon writes,
